In the latest, 14th edition of the Ranking of Law Faculties of the Rzeczpospolita daily, the University of Silesia advanced to 4th place among public universities in Poland—improving its position from last year’s 5th place.
Our university was ranked just off the podium, losing only to the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, the University of Warsaw and the University of Wrocław.
The ranking evaluates universities according to three key categories: scientific potential, quality of education and international cooperation.
Scientific potential
In this category, the University of Silesia took 2nd place ex aequo in the country, second only to the Jagiellonian University. The assessment concerned the scientific category, staff development, the authority to award doctoral and postdoctoral degrees, Polish Accreditation Committee certificates of excellence in education and the number of doctoral students. In the last of these indicators—the number of active doctoral students and doctoral schools atendees—the University of Silesia took 1st place among public universities in Poland!
Quality of education
The category of quality of education evaluates: the pass rate of law apprenticeship exams, the number of candidates per place, the number of Olympiad winners accepted, the quality of professional internships (the ratio of the number of students to the number of supervisors) and the economic fate of graduates.
Within this indicator, the University of Silesia Olympiad winners were ranked 2nd ex aequo with the Jagiellonian University—just behind the University of Warsaw.
International cooperation
This category analysed the share of foreign students in the total number of students and the availability of law studies conducted in English. The University of Silesia is among 6 public universities (out of 24 assessed) that offer law studies in English.
Our university can also boast a high pass rate in law apprenticeship exams, which last year was 86.2%. This result gives us 7th place among public universities.
The ranking was developed based on data from the National Information Processing Institute of the National Research Institute. It includes universities that had reported students in the winter semester of the 2024/2025 academic year in the field of law offered as part of the long-cycle studies (POL-on database status – 21 May 2025). In addition, universities must list at least ten graduates in 2023 and 2024 and ten students admitted to the first year of studies.
